Founded in Austin, Tex., in 1872 by a small group of African Methodist Episcopal circuit-riding preachers; 1882 the college moved to Waco, Tex. and first building there was funded by African Methodist Episcopal Church members through a "Ten Cents a Brick" campaign; named for Bishop William Paul Quinn, an A.M.E. missionary of the western state; moved to Dallas, Tex. in 1990.
